My Kindle Fire
I love it. It is like a drug. Something I have to get control of before it TAKES OVER my life. lol
It does have a few problems....such as staying connected to the internet. I have goggled that problem and it seems to be wide spread. I only need it to be online to browse the book store and download a book. There are lots of free books and lots for 99 cent books. Of course you can buy a new book instead of getting one at the book store. I just can't bring myself to spend 15 dollars ( about the most you would pay) for a book I can't hold in my hand and put on the book shelf. I know that makes me sound 'OLD'. So be it (o: Now the problem is... when it will go online...I hurry and download books. More than I can read (o: Another bad thing is they change prices almost daily. One day it might be free and the next it costs MONEY! So you get it while you can...then it is yours and the price can't change.
The first month we had Amazon prime for free. I really didn't know how to use it until the last half of the month. There were movies you could watch for free...so I did. Of course I didn't want to WASTE my free month of movies. Can you see me holding my Kindle, the size of a book, wearing ear buds... for 2 hours. I invited my hubby to view with me...wearing one ear bud and me the other...he never took me up on it. I really only viewed about 4 movies. It has expired. It is a relief (o: Fun while it lasted but enough ( viewing movies in bed) is enough.
I learned a long time ago to 'limit' my addiction. I have always loved to read.... but after I had kids.... decided it was not fair to them to have my face stuck in a book all the time. I saved reading for a time when they were asleep. Good thing I am a night owl. I love to read at night. Just last night I finished a book... looked at the clock and it was MIDNIGHT. Soooo... you have to learn to limit that habit. Not really fair to my hubby to have me always reading in bed (o: with the night light on till....who knows when.
I so wish young Moms in this day and age would learn how to budget their time....on the cell phone and on the computer. They have the phone glued to their ear while they drag a toddler around with the other hand. It's a wonder the child even learns to talk... no one engages him in real conversation. All he hears is his parent rattling away on a little box attached to their ear. Then there is Facebook. They need to look at their childs face.... not some random person on the computer.
Can you tell I have an OPINION!!! (o:

I got a Kindle for my birthday. Like you it is addicting! I also love having real books...I love holding the book and turning real pages and then, if I like the book, saving it on my book shelf, and if I feel so so about it....giving it to the library. I have to get use to this new way.

Oh yes, I can tell your opinion and I would agree with that one. Never a family gathering but someone has their smart phone, ipad or some such out. Our grandchildren are growing up in a very different world. I do love my kindle. I got it last year and so it's not the upgraded version you have, I only read books on it but love getting the free ones. I am amazed at the free ones I've read as they've been very good for the most part. I have a few that aren't so good, but I try to read the reviews before I get one. Here at my house it really doesn't matter what time I read. It bothers no one but I do try to limit it so I get some other things done. Winter is a good time to read anyway. I always read at night in bed. A good book is wonderful.
Hi, You would have loved the theater I went to yesterday!
Loved hearing about your kindle-you made it sound good and it would mean packing less books for trips but I love the books-I'm online enough without spending more time in front of a kindle. Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Noreen
yup--I have the old kindle but it can be addicting. I told my hubby you need to read the books you have before buying more! , bUT like you say, when they are on sale....ha!
Preach on sista. At Christmas, I watched my family on their cells, tv, ipads and other gadgets. I thought it sad that they didn't want to talk and visit with each other. When I go out to eat with a family member or friend and they spend most of the time on the phone or fb, I avoid spending future time with them. I like to talk and have eye contact.
I so agree with you about face-time with children! I'm always sad and a bit angry at the park when I see parents ignoring their kids. Know what? You hardly EVER see a grandparent doing that!
My husband got me a Kindle for my birthday Pam. I love it! I didn't get the Fire because I don't trust myself not to get all carried away with all the extra bells and whistles. I'm, like you, happy to be able to download great deals on books. It is wonderful.
My husband has got the Kindle "bug" now. I put it down for a moment and then he started to read, and now he can´t stop. LOL Ha! I love it, he was so skeptical and didn´t know why I would want the thing. Now he does. :)
Glad you are enjoying your toy! Love your opinion on gadgets and such.
I am trying to get a post done about my techie Christmas gift that my sweet hubby took back because I don't have the patience to deal with that much techiness. So now I keep trying to decide whether to get a Kindle or a Nook. I have been against it from the get-go, but then I used to think I didn't want a microwave either.
I am so with you on the other part of your post - I get very concerned about 1. their eyes, 2. their ears, 3. their children, 4. their ability to ever communicate verbally. I don't evenwant access to texting because it's so intrusive on normalcy, or what we used to call normal. Well, nuff said.
Before I had to start wearing real glasses, I had a pair of reading glasses stuck everywhere! Now Harold does the same thing!
I have had my Kindle for over 3 years and I still love it. I will have to have you tell me all the other things that a Kindle Fire does.
I think mom's and their electronics are a lost cause, but I sure would like to see them stop talking on their cell phones when the are driving.
I have heard such good things about the kindle but I still prefer to buy books even though it is more expensive but I like to share them with my mom and sister.
By the way we did get 4 free nights at the timeshare so they made it up to us. We can actually use it anywhere so I don't know if we will go back there.
Have a good week!
Blessings!
Janet
Not only is Miss cutie-pie wearing your reading glasses, they are also upside-down on that sweet smiling face :)
Besides reading book and news, I also use my Kindle Fire for going on line to check my email, my blog and play solitaire.
Its definitely addicting.
Have a wonderful weekend, Pam.
Hugs,
Pam i am 2 :)
That kiddie is so cute. Hey, as far as sewing the reason I have the kitty sewing machine is it is really --I just leave it at one setting. I have always had trouble with tensions and stuff--so I just do basic little bits of sewing on this easy machine. Have a good weekend.
Hi Pam. Glade you enjoyed the hummingbirds of Alaska. I got the video in an email and was thrilled to see so many birds so up close and feeding right out of their hands.
Hugs,
Pam i am 2 :)
Does your library have a free ebook download service? Our public library does here. Also, we hope to get that service in our church library this year.
I have not worked with kindle but have heard of so many who like it. Blesings,Kathleen
I haven't gotten any of those things yet but I admit that I drag my phone around.
Life is so different.
Wonder what it was when we were young??
