Being Positive

It's the New Year. I almost have the Christmas stuff put away!!! I really hate that job! Now it is time to look forward. I am not really one to make New Years Resolutions. Buttttt.... it is a fun time to make changes. You don't have to be a slave to those changes, but you can at least TRY to change a few things or do some NEW things.

I want to focus more on the positive...in LIFE. I want to surround myself with the things life has to offer. I love this activity my almost ten year old Granddaughter introduced to us. At a big family dinner she had all of us draw names of those present, then write something we like about that person. Something good. Positive. It was so much fun. It really worked. She is an excellent reader, but found it hard to read some grown ups writing. One of the outstanding moments was what my son wrote about his sister. It was a wonderful compliment and I realized it was something adults don't do very often. They don't take time to tell each other what they really like about each other.

She has a great 4th grade teacher. I visited her class on a Friday when school was almost out. Each kid had a small dry erase board at their desk. The teacher said it was time to bless each other. The kids then wrote positive things about their classmates. There was a system that I don't remember, but they only wrote about one or two people, then they read it out loud. Amazing! Maybe my husband and I should try that at the dinner table. Just the two of us. Write a positive little note about each other and put it in a basket to be read later. He would never go for reading it out loud, but maybe he would put it in a basket....less pressure. I like it! We will try it and see what happens.

Compliments are something that are rare and I think it's a wonderful idea to tell people what you think is good about them. More than any thing else a little praise goes a long way. I remember when my children were little that if I told them how well they were doing, it only encouraged them to do better. When all we hear is negative it becomes very hard to be upbeat about things. Thank you for those great thoughts today, I'm going to have to remember to do more complimenting in the year ahead.

You are such a good grammie...you visit school! Very few grandparents visit grandchildren's school.
Way to go!

I like that teachers thinking. Positive reinforcement is so important to the young and old alike.
I can't wait to hear what Mr R says :)
Be well n happy, Pam.

What a sweet thing to do. Why is it easier to say nice things about people if we write it down and than to say it to them?

Wow, these are some really great ideas! It would be good to do this each time we sit down for dinner!

I think that is a wonderful idea....your granddaughter may have started a great tradition at your home......
Her teacher must be a very good person, she is lucky to have her.

GREAT idea! One of our daughter's teachers had them do that in middle school. It was a wonderful page of affirmations!

I love the positive attitude of this whole post, Pam. The plan of looking at things in a more positive way is a good one. I usually think of myself as a positive person, but I know there are times when I let the negative creep in. Sharing our positive thoughts about other people is probably a good way to help us feel more positive about ourselves.
We will have to remind each other about being positive when we get together.

What a neat idea. I think Marvin and will start that tonight. I was thinking of a journal so they we can go back and revisit it. Being positive and seeing the good things is something that I have been working on for a long time. Thank you grandaughter for this idea.

I have to get caught up on reading all yoour posts. With the Holidays and Max being sick and then losing him has been so hard to stay positive. Thank you my friend for your great posts of encoragement.
Blessings & Love
Janet
