Thanksgiving Trip

I am back to good ole Colorado. We had a great trip and a great visit with Family...and a great Thanksgiving dinner (Thanks Peggy). No...I did not do any Black Friday shopping. I did NO shopping. We did eat out TOO much. Had Starbucks and McDonalds coffee (o: rented Super Eight and enjoyed watching it on the lap top in our bedroom (this is the same bedroom my husband had from his early years till he got married)...hee hee. We felt like teenagers hiding away in our room. Let me explain. We stayed at my husbands parents house. They are in their late 80's. It was really hot in the house. The TV was really REALLY loud out in the living room. While naps were being taken during the day, I enjoyed going through old pictures. Playing my own version of Scrabble solitaire, looking at magazines and a few walks in the woods.

It was a good trip, and a hard trip. Lots of feelings of the way it use to be and wondering about the future. Some of you understand what this means.

The car trip gets harder and harder the older I get. Twelve hours in the car. Yes, it is better than all those years we took the three kids on this long trip, but Kansas is so flat and boring and lonnnngggg. I picked that picture because it is somewhat flat, but it is much greener than it was this time. I read... and read and read!!! I can't imagine what hubby thinks about for all those hours. I would talk if he wanted to...but he enjoys the solitude. I saw 3 dead deer on the side of the road and....OK...that is to gross to tell you the total of roadkill (o:

Sooo....I am back and now I need to look towards the holidays. I asked my husband to put up the tree tonight...but it is bedtime and there is no sign of a tree going up...oh well...there is always tomorrow (o:

I'm happy to hear you two had a nice Thanksgiving with family, Pam.
Sometimes its a bit sad to go back and see things change over the years.
The good news is your not in flat Kansas any more, my Colorado friend.

Rest and be Merry :0)

I've made that drive across Kansas many times and you are so right, it is a looong drive. I'm glad you are back and that you had a good trip. I know there must have been lots of emotions involved.
We will have to try to find a couple of hours to get together during the busy weeks coming up before Christmas.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. Our kids offered to decorate our house for us but I did a Bah-Humbug and declined the offer. We go out for all the celebrations and don't care if the house is festive. I buy about 90% of the gifts online to avoid the stores. I'm about done except for a few gift certificates.
Never been across Kansas but Ohio goes on FOREVER!

I have missed you but it sounded like a great trip. I know all about those long trips. It is 24 hours by car back to Nebraska from here and Wyoming and the state of Nebraska all long states. Marvin wants to drive back this year in his little car. Me I want to fly. No 14 hours days for me. It is exhausting and I am not the driver.
I have taken a break from blogging for a while but I will be back to check in on you.

Blessings & Hugs
Janet

Glad you are safely home and that you got to spend that precious time with your in laws. I do know how it feels with parents in their 80's and the house so hot you had get out for a breath of air now and then. Sadly my folks have both been gone for a few years now so I know how much your visit meant. Our family had our Thanksgiving feast at my daughters this year and all but 2 of my son's and their families made it in. I'm busy making gifts and am behind so there will be many busy days ahead here too. Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one!

Twelve hours is a long drive! My hubby usually likes it quiet while he drives also. Sometimes , however, we put an audio book in the CD player when we take long trips. We have both enjoyed this and it helps the time seem much shorter--plus it is a shared experience. Had to laugh about the motel and movie on the computer--a good idea.

Long and boring, that´s what our landscape here looks like too. So I know exactly what you mean.
I also know what you mean about being in the old room/house and seeing the parents aging. Things will change when they have to and you´ll just deal with it then. We are trying to be patient with our parents and will wait till they make the decision to get help.
Hope you have a blessed Advent!

Hi there, Loved hearing about your trip to hubby's parents. That is a long drive-wow, glad you had a good book. We need to cherish those times with family because we never know when they might be over.
Have a great day.
Talk to you soon.

I find traveling hard also. I don't like hours and hours of just sitting...my body doesn't do well.

Your photo is lovely!

I'm glad the trip went well, and I do understand how hard it can be Pam. I'm sure they are so happy to have you there.
How great that you can read while riding in the car. I can't and when we take a long trip like that all I can think about is how much reading I could be getting in if only I didn't get car sick!
Glad you're home safe and sound.

Welcome home. Traveled across Kansas and half way through Iowa too many times to count. Not only flat, but the road is so straight - need a curve every once in awhile to keep you awake! I think I know what you are talking about with the way things were and the future. We are looking at that with my MIL - almost 92 and still in her home.

It's strange that somehow I can read in the car, when I used to get so carsick. I totally get what Linda is saying!

My husband can drive for hours without a word, too. I talk, but he probably doesn't get most of what I say.

Glad you had a good trip, but I do know what you're saying. My folks are .7 mile from me and Dwight's mom is 93 in assisted living, soon to go to full care, most likely (money about gone for such lovely care). I don't know what my parents will do - no money at all.

I got my tree up last week-end with the big help of Hayley. She loved it.

Well, here it is December and we haven't gotten together again. And today it's cold and snowy. Pretty, but COLD.
